Rajgarh Farmers Shift to Early-Maturing Wheat Amidst Water Scarcity Worries

Rajgarh farmers in Madhya Pradesh are bracing for the upcoming Rabi season amidst concerns over water scarcity. The region has received scanty rainfall, prompting farmers to seek early-maturing wheat varieties that require limited irrigation and shorter growing periods.

Farmers like Rajesh Parihar have begun preparing for Rabi sowing, but they fear that long-duration wheat cultivation could be risky if water remains scarce. 'Growing long-duration wheat could be a gamble if we don't receive significant rainfall in the coming days,' said Parihar.

The agriculture department has advised farmers to select crops according to available irrigation resources. Gram and mustard, which require less water than wheat, have been suggested as alternatives to traditional Rabi crops.
