Record-Breaking Gas Prices Plague Labor Day Travelers

Gas prices have reached a record high for Labor Day weekend, with drivers paying an average of $4.14 per gallon nationwide.

This is the first time gas prices have surpassed $4 on Labor Day, according to AAA, which also reports that Texas has an average price of $3.68 per gallon.

The high cost of crude oil is to blame for the increased prices, as continued volatility in the Strait of Hormuz keeps oil prices in the $90 per barrel range.

AAA notes that while gasoline demand typically decreases this time of year, bringing down gas prices, the high cost of crude oil has kept prices steady.
