Record Wheat Crop Could Slash Egypt's Imports by 23%

According to UkrAgroConsult, Egypt's wheat production is expected to reach a record 10 million tons in the 2026/27 marketing year.

The increase is attributed to a larger harvested area and higher yields. The forecasted wheat harvested area is set to expand to 1.5 million hectares from 1.33 million hectares in the previous season.

Government procurement prices, certified seed use, and wider adoption of high-yielding varieties are also supporting production.

In light of this increased domestic crop and substantial carryover stocks, Egypt's wheat imports could fall by 23% to 12 million tons in 2026/27. This would be the lowest level since the 2022/23 marketing year.
