Red Sea Tensions Spark Oil Price Surge in Middle East
The Middle East oil spot premiums have skyrocketed to their highest levels in two months due to recent tanker attacks in the Red Sea. The attacks, attributed to Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis, have led to a rerouting of Saudi oil shipments through a more circuitous route around Africa, disrupting conventional supply flows.
Energy Aspects consultancy warns that further increases in premiums are anticipated due to cargo diversions and deterrence from shipping through Bab el-Mandeb. The recent maritime threats have also exacerbated the shipping blockades in the Strait of Hormuz, slowing exports of crude oil and fuel to Asia.
The spot premiums for Dubai and Oman benchmarks have risen sharply, reaching levels not seen since the end of May. Analysts are closely monitoring these developments as they signal tighter supply and potential shifts in the global oil market dynamics.
