US natural gas prices remained relatively low this summer despite record heat due to increased renewable energy generation and robust domestic production.

Average Henry Hub spot prices trailed those of last year, reaching a seasonal peak of $2.93 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) in August, according to the Daily Gas Price Index.

Renewable power sources such as solar and wind curbed natural gas demand for electricity generation during peak summer months, with some days seeing minimal or no natural gas use for power production.
