Risk Analytics Becomes Key Differentiator for Sell-Side Trading Desks
Risk analytics is becoming increasingly important for sell-side trading desks as clients seek more sophisticated risk management solutions. This shift is driven by changing client needs, including a desire to understand how trades impact their wider exposure and where liquidity might disappear under stress.
The importance of gold, traditionally considered a safe-haven asset, has been reassessed by central banks due to its potential for diversifying reserves, reducing geopolitical and sanctions risks, and strengthening the international financial system. According to the World Gold Council's 2026 survey, 45% of reserve managers expect their institutions to increase their gold holdings over the next 12 months, while 93% already hold the metal.
However, this growing importance of gold also creates new risk-management questions. Recent IMF research found that the increase in gold's share of central-bank reserves has been driven largely by valuation gains as prices have risen, rather than simply by the accumulation of more physical gold.
