Riyadh Airport Disrupted by Explosion Amid Escalation of Yemen Conflict
A major disruption at Riyadh King Khalid International Airport has been caused by an explosion near the airport, reports indicate.
Residents described hearing what sounded like booms and seeing a large plume of smoke near the airport. Two residents said they saw black smoke and flames emanating from the area near the airport.
A fuel tank belonging to Saudi oil giant Aramco was on fire, with firefighters attempting to extinguish the blaze. The disruption has resulted in major issues at the airport, including cancellations and delays, according to aircraft tracking website FlightRadar24.
The incident comes amid an escalation of attacks by Yemen's Houthi group against Saudi Arabia, which has been retaliating with air strikes. The Houthis have recently taken control of swaths of territory in Yemen, leaving the internationally recognized government scrambling to respond.
