Romania's inflation rate slowed to 6.2% in August, down from July's surprise 7.1% print.

The decrease was largely driven by lower prices for food items and natural gas, which fell by 5.5% and more than 4% respectively on a monthly basis.

However, fuel prices rose over 6%, highlighting the continued sensitivity of headline inflation to global energy markets.

The National Bank of Romania maintains its year-end CPI forecast of 6.5%, but ING thinks it could be closer to 6% if oil prices ease.
