RSPO Milestone: 20% of Global Palm Oil Production Now Certified Sustainable
The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) has released its 2026 Impact Report, highlighting significant progress in certified sustainable palm oil production. According to RSPO, certified supply now covers 20% of global production, enabling downstream buyers to meet responsible sourcing targets through expanded supplier networks and improved traceability systems.
Certified facilities number over 7,500 globally, with trademark licences expanding across 94 countries. This allows manufacturers to more easily track certified sustainable palm oil ingredients through supplier networks. Downstream manufacturers have achieved uptake target compliance rates of 61%, while retailers have reached nearly 70% compliance.
The certification system requires suppliers to protect over 551,000 hectares of High Conservation Value, High Carbon Stock and peatland areas from land conversion. This represents an area nearly eight times the size of Singapore. RSPO CEO Joseph D'Cruz notes that regulatory frameworks are raising the bar on deforestation, due diligence, and supply chain transparency.
