Russia Doubts Armenia Can Match Gas Prices Outside EAEU

Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov stated that Armenia may not receive comparable natural gas prices if it leaves the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

In a recent statement, Reshetnikov commented on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's assertion that Armenia is seeking alternatives to its economic and political ties with Russia.

The EAEU remains the primary market and main supplier of resources for the Armenian economy, according to Reshetnikov. He noted that within the Union's common gas market, Russia supplies gas to Armenia at $177.5 per thousand cubic meters, which is significantly lower than current European prices exceeding $600 per thousand cubic meters.

This represents a subsidy amounting to approximately $1 billion per year, Reshetnikov emphasized, adding that it's unlikely anyone outside the Union would be able to offer Armenia such terms.
