Russia Redirects Grain Shipments Amid Ukraine Conflict

Russian grain exporters are rerouting shipments from the Black Sea and Azov to the Baltic Sea due to Ukrainian attacks on vessels and port infrastructure.

The last export season saw Russia ship 46.3 million tons of grain through its Black Sea and Azov ports, accounting for 90% of seaborne exports.

This season, however, rail booking requests for grain shipments to Russian Baltic ports have reached 5 million tons, surpassing the 6 million tons booked for the Black Sea ports of Novorossiysk and Tuapse.

Russia's Grain Union estimates that exports through the Baltic states' ports could hit 5-6 million tons this season, or 10 million if Estonia opens up.
