Russia Rekindles Flour Exports to Burundi Amid Growing Economic Ties
Russia has resumed flour exports to Burundi after a brief hiatus that began in November 2024.
The Russian Agroexport Federal Center reported that over 815 tonnes of wheat or rye-wheat flour worth around US$600,000 were shipped in August 2026.
The suspension occurred due to difficulties local importers faced in obtaining the correct documentation for shipments from Russia and Ukraine.
Russia initially started supplying flour to Burundi in 2021, providing a significant source of bulgar wheat used in traditional Burundian dishes such as Boko Boko Harees.
The country's bilateral trade with Russia is relatively small, amounting to less than US$10 million per annum.
