Russia Scrambles to Revive Fuel Supplies Amid Ongoing Crunch
Russia is scrambling to restore fuel supplies as several refineries resume operations after repairs. The country has been suffering from a gasoline and diesel crunch since spring, when Ukraine intensified drone attacks on Russian refineries, aiming to cripple fuel supply to the front lines and the domestic market.
The drone hits have become a nearly daily occurrence, with targets deep into Russian territory over 1,000 miles from the border with Ukraine. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak sought to alleviate concerns on Monday by stating that oil refineries in Russia have resumed operations after repairs and are expected to raise supply on the domestic market.
Russia has been turning to South Korea and India for fuel imports as one or more refineries is constantly out of service due to Ukrainian attacks. The country's diesel and gasoil exports have crashed this month to the lowest in many years, with Moscow extending restrictions on diesel exports amid the fuel crisis.
