Russia Surpasses Kazakhstan as Kyrgyzstan's Main Wheat Supplier

Russia has overtaken Kazakhstan as Kyrgyzstan's main wheat supplier in the first six months of 2026. According to official statistics, Russian wheat exports increased almost fivefold, while supplies from Kazakhstan fell by about half.

Between January and June, Russia supplied Kyrgyzstan with 220,200 tons of wheat worth $47.1 million, a 4.8-fold increase year-on-year. Kazakhstan, on the other hand, exported only 64,300 tons of wheat to Kyrgyzstan during this period, down 50% from the same time last year.

In terms of volume and value, Russia supplied approximately 3.4 times as much wheat as Kazakhstan. The Russian barley supplies to Kyrgyzstan also saw a significant increase, with imports reaching 15,200 tons worth $2.98 million, compared to just 50 tons worth $9,800 in the same period last year.
