Russia Turns to India for Petrol Amid Ukrainian Refinery Attacks
Russia has been importing petrol from India despite being an oil giant due to Ukrainian attacks on its refineries, which have disrupted fuel supplies.
The attacks have led to a significant drop in domestic production in Russia, resulting in a supply crunch that the country cannot meet on its own.
According to Vortexa, Russia's seaborne gasoline imports surged to a record 125,000 barrels per day in August, with Indian refiners supplying as much as 1 million barrels of gasoline in the last two months.
The supplies came from India's Vadinar refinery, operated by Nayara Energy, which is half-owned by Russia's Rosneft. However, the transfers were conducted in the dark, with ships switching off their automatic identification system (AIS) signals.
