Russia Ukraine Tensions Drive Wheat Futures Toward 700 Dollar Mark
Wheat futures prices are rising sharply as Russia escalates its military threats against Ukraine, raising concerns over global grain supply disruptions. Prices have climbed to between $681 and $687 per bushel, recovering from recent lows as traders react to heightened supply risks. Russia’s warnings to intensify strikes on Ukraine’s transport infrastructure have intensified fears about the stability of grain shipments from the Black Sea region.
The escalation has disrupted key shipping lanes and export routes, with Russia’s export volumes dropping significantly compared to previous years. Major importing nations in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa are now seeking alternative suppliers, such as the United States, contributing to rising global food inflation.
From a technical standpoint, wheat futures have immediate support near the $644, $650 range, which has previously acted as a buying zone. A breakdown below this level could signal deeper retracements toward $622. On the upside, resistance is clustered around $705, $710, with bullish momentum targeting psychological levels near $750, $760.
