Russian Embassy Denies Allegations of Irregularities in Bangladesh Trade
The Russian Embassy in Dhaka has responded to recent reports of irregularities in wheat trade and energy projects between Bangladesh and Russia. The embassy described the allegations as 'baseless and motivated', stating that they are aimed at questioning the strong bilateral relations between the two countries.
In a statement, the embassy said that all types of wheat procurement activities are conducted through designated state institutions with complete transparency and in accordance with international commercial standards. This includes strict quality control for agricultural products exported from Russia, which undergo verification by relevant Russian state inspection agencies before being unloaded at Chittagong Port.
The embassy also addressed allegations about the source of wheat shipments, claiming that they are 'completely baseless'. Russia exports wheat collected from legal domestic agricultural sectors in full compliance with international law. The statement further highlighted the issue of Bangladesh-Russia energy cooperation, noting that the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is being implemented following international standards of technology, financial management, and safety standards.
