Russian Wheat Exports Plummet as Shipments Fall Almost Fourfold
Russia's wheat exports are expected to decline significantly in September 2026, according to the Russian Grain Union. The union predicts that Russia will export around 1 million tons of wheat in September, a steep drop from 5.7 million tons exported during the same period last year.
The second ten-day period of September saw a sharp decline in wheat shipments, falling almost fourfold to 347 thousand tons compared to 1.3 million tons in the same period of 2025. Total exports of main grains also decreased, with 381 thousand tons shipped during the second ten days of September, down from almost 1.6 million tons a year earlier.
The geography of wheat exports has narrowed significantly, with shipments going to only eight countries compared to 29 in the same period last year. Egypt remained the largest buyer, purchasing 81 thousand tons, although this is a significant decline from previous years. Turkey, another major buyer, saw its imports fall to just 6.1 thousand tons.
