Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful has called on Russia to lift its blockade of Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea, citing the threat of famine worldwide.

In a meeting with Vatican officials, Wadeful emphasized that time is running out and that the grain could spoil before reaching buyers.

The German diplomat also urged Europe and countries in the Global South to raise the issue more actively, with support from Cardinal P'Petr Parolin and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher of the Holy See.
