Russia's Energy Exports Surge to Asia Amid Arctic Projects
Russia's energy exports to Asia are on the rise, particularly to China. Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to China have increased more than 50-fold over the past decade, making Russia one of the top three largest suppliers of hydrocarbons to the Asian country.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, large Chinese corporations are participating in Russian projects in the Arctic. The Northern Sea Route is being used to transport energy cargo to China.
Russian companies also send a significant volume of coal to China, with Igor Sechin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rosneft, stating that China imports about 20% of its coal from Russia. In 2025, almost 90 million tons of fossil fuel are expected to be supplied to the Asian country.
