Russia's Wheat Exports Plummet Amid Black Sea Port Attacks
Russia's wheat exports have significantly decreased in recent weeks due to Ukrainian attacks on Black Sea port infrastructure and vessels. According to data from the Russian Grain Union, Russia exported 347,000 tonnes of wheat in the second ten-day period of September, compared to 1.3 million tonnes during the same period last year.
Total exports of major grain types fell sharply, with barley shipments decreasing 9.9-fold and corn shipments falling 3.3-fold. The number of countries buying Russian wheat dropped from 29 to 8, with Egypt's purchases decreasing 3.6-fold and Turkey purchasing only 6,100 tonnes, compared to over 200,000 tonnes a year earlier.
Olena Tyurina, director of the analytical department of the Russian Grain Union, forecasts that Russia will export no more than 1 million tonnes of wheat in September as a whole, down from 5.7 million tonnes last year.
