Sabah Gas Supply Set to Nearly Double by 2030 with New Development Projects

Sabah's gas supply is expected to nearly double by 2030, according to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. The state currently supplies around 700 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd), but this number is set to increase to 1,350 mmscfd with the implementation of seven offshore development projects, including four new gas fields.

The projects involve international and local oil companies and are part of Sabah's long-term plan to support growth in energy demand and the industrial sector over the next four years. Hajiji said that this strategy provides a clear implementation plan to secure the gas supply needed to support Sabah's industrial aspirations.

According to Hajiji, additional gas demand will be driven by new power plants and Petronas' third floating liquefied natural gas facility (PFLNG3). The report also highlights opportunities for the development of gas-based industries in Sandakan and the east coast area as a whole.
