Sable Offshore to Restart Hondo Platform in September
Sable Offshore, an oil and gas company based in Texas, has announced plans to restart its Hondo platform off the California coast next month. This move is part of the company's phased approach to bringing offshore operations back online.
The Hondo platform is expected to come online in September 2026, with five completed perforation additions forecasted to produce an incremental 600 gross barrels of oil per day each. Four more perforation additions are planned for completion and startup in early Q4 2026.
Sable noted that due to California's regulatory environment, local refineries could not plan in advance for first sales from the Santa Ynez Unit and were forced to displace various imported cargoes in the second quarter. As a result, the company incurred $18.5 million in non-recurring demurrage charges during the quarter.
The sudden supply influx of Pacific Outer Continental Shelf crude has led refiners to temporarily limit throughput of that crude and charge quality deductions for sulfur content and other items. Sable expects the Hondo platform to produce lower-sulfur oil, which should bring field-wide sulfur levels to normal upon its planned restart in September 2026.
