Sanjay Kumar Set to Lead Petronet LNG Amid India's Natural Gas Push
Petronet LNG has appointed Sanjay Kumar, Director of Marketing at GAIL (India) Ltd, as its next Managing Director and CEO. The appointment comes after a brief 15-minute meeting by the board on October 2, where it was decided to clear Kumar's name for the top position. He will take over from A K Singh on May 13, 2027, when Singh's extended tenure ends.
Kumar has more than 35 years of experience in the natural gas and LNG value chain. As GAIL's Director (Marketing), he brings a wealth of knowledge that will be valuable to Petronet LNG, especially with India seeking to increase its reliance on natural gas as an energy source. The country aims to expand its regasification infrastructure, including Petronet LNG's Dahej terminal, which plays a key role in meeting the growing demand for imported natural gas.
Petronet LNG is India's largest gas importer and has a 27.5 million tonnes per annum (MMTPA) of regasification capacity, comprising 22.5 MMTPA at Dahej and 5 MMTPA at Kochi. The company handles about 74% of India's LNG imports and accounts for around 34% of the country's gas supplies.
