Sanjay Kumar to Lead Petronet LNG as Next CEO
Sanjay Kumar, currently the Director of Marketing at GAIL (India) Ltd, has been named the next Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Petronet LNG Ltd. His five-year term will start on 13 May 2027, following the extended tenure of the current CEO, A K Singh, which ends on 12 May 2027.
Petronet LNG Ltd is India's largest importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), operating key terminals at Dahej in Gujarat and Kochi in Kerala. These facilities have a combined regasification capacity of 27.5 million tonnes per annum (MMTPA). The company is a joint venture among four state-run energy firms, each holding a 12.5% stake.
Sanjay Kumar, 59, brings over 35 years of experience in the natural gas and LNG sector. He previously served as the Managing Director of Indraprastha Gas and joined GAIL as Director (Marketing) in mid-June 2023. He holds a mechanical engineering degree from IIT Kharagpur and an MBA.
Natural gas plays a vital role in India's energy sector, used in fertilisers, power generation, city gas distribution, and industrial applications. LNG imports are crucial for meeting domestic gas demand when pipeline production falls short.
