Santacruz Silver Mining Ltd. (SCZ-X) has seen its stock price drop more than 50% from its 52-week high of $23.90 set on Jan. 26. However, the company's chairman and CEO, Arturo Prestamo, recently made a significant move that could signal confidence in the stock's recovery. On Oct. 26, Prestamo spent just over $418,000 to buy shares in the public market, a move that insider watchers are interpreting as a bullish sign.

The stock's decline comes amid a broader slide in silver prices over the past month. Despite this, Santacruz Silver Mining reported strong production numbers for the third quarter, with 3,027,229 silver equivalent ounces produced, up 27% from the same period last year. This production increase suggests that the company is performing well operationally, even as market conditions challenge its stock price.

Ted Dixon, CEO of INK Research, which tracks insider trading activity, noted the significance of Prestamo's purchase. Insider buying can often be a contrarian indicator, suggesting that company leaders see value in the stock at current levels. However, investors should also be aware that INK staff may hold positions in the securities profiled, which could introduce potential conflicts of interest.
