Sarens Heavy-Lifting Operation Powers Norway's Floating Wind Project

Sarens, a heavy lifting and crane rental company, played a key role in the development of the Culzean floating wind project in Norway. The project aims to provide clean and renewable energy to the Culzean gas extraction plant, which is considered strategic for the British energy sector. Sarens' engineering team was responsible for tasks including determining lifting points, defining lifting methods, and providing rigging equipment.

The company's single-crane solution, the LR12500 1.0 model (also known as the Strong Steve), was already at Wergeland Base when it was appointed to lead the heavy-lifting operations. This allowed Sarens to reduce logistical footprint, improve cost efficiency, and make machinery available immediately for the project.

The company lifted key components weighing up to 160 tons, including structure's outer columns, central columns, and frames. The Culzean gas production plant is designed to produce 15 million m3/d of natural gas and condensate, covering around 5% of Great Britain's gas supply needs.
