Saudi airports attacked as Middle East tensions persist
Saudi Arabia reported attacks on two of its airports by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, resulting in three injuries. The airports in Najran and Jizan sustained damage, according to the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation. The Houthis claimed responsibility, stating they targeted Saudi oil facilities, airports, and military bases with missiles and drones. This escalation follows nearly three years of continuous conflict in the Middle East, which has spread to Iran, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen.
In Gaza, an Israeli airstrike killed one person and severely injured another in Gaza City. The Israeli military stated it targeted a militant but provided no further details. This incident occurred despite a ceasefire that took effect nearly a year ago, during which over 1,460 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Israel is observing a somber anniversary this week, marking three years since Hamas’ deadly October 7, 2023, attack. The attack, which killed around 1,200 people and took 251 hostages, sparked a war that has devastated Gaza and claimed the lives of 74,000 Palestinians. The conflict has left deep trauma in Israel, particularly in communities near the Gaza border, where security remains a major concern.
