Saudi airports attacked as Middle East tensions persist three years after Hamas assault
Saudi Arabia reported that two of its airports were struck in renewed attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, resulting in three injuries. The airports in Najran and Jizan sustained damage, though the Saudi authorities did not explicitly blame the Houthis. The rebels had earlier claimed responsibility for launching missiles and drones at Saudi oil facilities, airports, and military bases.
Meanwhile, an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City killed one person and severely injured another, according to health officials at Shifa Hospital. The Israeli military stated it targeted a militant near a densely populated area but provided no further details. The strike occurred nearly a year after a ceasefire took effect, during which over 1,460 Palestinians have been killed, per Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Israel is observing three years since Hamas’ deadly October 7, 2023 attack, which marked the deadliest day in the country’s history. The conflict has left lasting trauma, with communities near the Gaza border still grappling with insecurity. Nearly three years of fighting have resulted in the deaths of 74,000 Palestinians, according to health officials in Gaza.
