Saudi Airports Attacked as Mideast Tensions Escalate
Saudi Arabia reported that two of its airports were attacked by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, resulting in three injuries. The strikes targeted airports in Najran and Jizan on Monday, causing damage to both facilities. Houthi Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree claimed responsibility, stating the rebels also fired at a third airport, Abha International Airport, though this could not be confirmed. Saudi authorities have launched a military campaign to reclaim Houthi-controlled territory near the Red Sea to secure oil exports.
In Gaza, Israeli airstrikes killed two people and injured at least one more in Gaza City. The Israeli military asserted it targeted fighters in both strikes, including one near a densely populated park. Since a ceasefire took effect nearly a year ago, over 1,460 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of a potential Hamas attack ahead of Israel’s upcoming elections, stating, “Precisely because Hamas is so weak, it will try to challenge us with its remaining strength ahead of the elections in an attempt to influence them.” Netanyahu claimed Israel is prepared to respond with force if necessary. Meanwhile, Israeli authorities demolished a five-story building in east Jerusalem, displacing dozens of Palestinian residents. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir stated over 10,000 structures built without permits have been demolished in the past year and a half.
