Saudi airports hit by Houthis as Middle East tensions persist
Saudi Arabia reported that two of its airports were struck in recent attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels, resulting in three minor injuries. The strikes targeted airports in Najran and Jizan, causing damage to both facilities. The Houthi rebels had earlier claimed responsibility for launching missiles and drones at Saudi oil facilities, airports, and military bases. Saudi Arabia and its allies are currently engaged in a military campaign in Yemen to reclaim territory controlled by the Houthis near the Red Sea.
In Gaza City, an Israeli airstrike killed one person and severely injured another, according to health officials at Shifa Hospital. The Israeli military stated it targeted a militant in the strike near a densely populated area but provided no further details. This incident occurred nearly a year after a ceasefire took effect, during which over 1,460 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
Israel is observing a week of mourning to mark the three-year anniversary of the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. The attack resulted in the deaths of around 1,200 people and the capture of 251 hostages, triggering a war that has since spread across the region. The conflict has left deep trauma in Israel, particularly in communities near the Gaza border, where residents continue to struggle with a heightened sense of insecurity.
