Saudi Arabia Aims for Top Logistics Ranking as Trade Routes Shift

Geopolitical tensions and shipping disruptions have caused a reevaluation of global trade routes and supply chain strategies. Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a resilient trade hub, leveraging its Red Sea ports and expanding transport network to strengthen both oil and non-oil trade.

Paolo Carlomagno, partner at Arthur D Little, notes that the disruptions are not temporary but rather a structural shift in global supply chains. 'Uncertainty disrupts trade both before and long after any physical closure,' he said.

The Kingdom's Vision 2030 targets a top-10 global logistics ranking and aims to increase the transport and logistics sector's contribution to gross domestic product to 10 percent by 2030. To achieve this, Saudi Arabia must convert its emergency infrastructure into services that shippers choose under normal conditions, based on cost, transit time, and reliability.
