Saudi Arabia and US Stress Importance of Maritime Security in Key Waterways

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met in Washington to discuss maritime security and freedom of navigation in international waterways.

The two officials emphasized the importance of safeguarding these waterways, particularly the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

According to the Saudi Foreign Ministry, the talks also covered strategic relations between the two countries, as well as political and security developments in the region.

The meeting came after US Central Command reported that over 1 billion barrels of oil had passed through the Strait of Hormuz in recent months.
