Saudi Arabia Attacks Spark Brent Crude Price Surge
Renewed attacks in Saudi Arabia have raised concerns about possible disruption to energy infrastructure and crude supply routes, causing Brent crude prices to rise. The Saudi capital was targeted by missile and drone activity over the weekend, with a fire reported near fuel-storage infrastructure close to Riyadh's international airport.
The latest escalation highlights the distinction between geopolitical tension and actual disruption to physical oil flows. While missile or drone attacks can increase risk premiums immediately, sustained price increases usually require evidence that production, storage, or exports have been materially affected.
Saudi Arabia plays a central role in global crude supply, and any prolonged disruption affecting storage facilities, pipelines, terminals, or other energy infrastructure could influence export availability. The East-West pipeline provides an alternative route for moving Saudi crude toward the Red Sea, reducing dependence on Gulf shipping routes.
