Saudi Arabia Hosts First-Ever Energy Hackathon to Ignite Innovative Solutions
Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy has announced its first-ever Energy Hackathon, 'Ignite Your Ideas,' which will take place from October 7-9, 2026, at the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) in Riyadh.
The hackathon is sponsored by Energy and Industry and Mineral Resources Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz and aims to provide creative solutions to pressing issues in the energy field.
The competition will tackle six challenges divided into three categories: Operational Efficiency, Transformative Innovation, and Intelligent Control. These tasks include enhancing inspections at oil and gas sites, ensuring grid stability with growing renewable energy inputs, creating intelligent fuel stations, advancing hydrogen storage methods, anticipating grid outages, and improving electricity demand management.
Industry specialists will lead workshops and offer guidance as participants build their prototypes, which will then be evaluated by a jury. Successful projects will receive entrepreneurial backing to move their concepts past the initial model phase.
