Saudi Arabia Issues Aerial Threat Alert as Tensions with Iran-Backed Rebels Escalate
Saudi Arabia issued its first alert in Riyadh since fighting escalated with Iran-backed rebels in neighboring Yemen, warning of a 'hostile aerial threat' and prompting emergency alerts across the kingdom. The move comes as tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran continue to rise.
The Houthi rebels later claimed responsibility for targeting 'sensitive sites' in Riyadh and facilities of oil giant Aramco in the Red Sea port of Yanbu, causing 'massive fires.' However, neither Saudi authorities nor Aramco responded to a request for comment.
Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme National Security Council head Mohsen Rezaei said Tehran has sent its conditions for ending the war to Washington via Qatar, including ending the war on all fronts and releasing assets seized from Iran. The US is yet to respond.
