Saudi Arabia Issues Warning as Mideast Tensions Escalate
Saudi Arabia issued a warning about a 'hostile aerial threat' and sent out emergency alerts across the kingdom, including one for its capital Riyadh. The alerts were triggered by the potential of Houthi missiles or drones being launched into Saudi territory.
The first alert in Riyadh since an escalation in fighting with Iran-backed rebels in Yemen caused some concern among residents. However, no casualties or damage were reported after at least one explosion was heard in the city.
Meanwhile, Iran's state TV announced that a man identified as Hossein Pedram had been executed for spying on behalf of Israel's Mossad intelligence agency. The report stated that Pedram shared classified information about sensitive military sites in Iran's Isfahan province, which were targeted by US and Israeli airstrikes last year.
Additionally, the US military reported that it has supported the transit of 1 billion barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz over the past two months. The strait's primary transit lanes have been cleared of mines, but shipping traffic remains below pre-war levels.
