Saudi Arabia Offers Additional Oil Shipments Amid Ongoing Global Energy Shortage
Oil prices dipped slightly from their four-month highs following reports that Saudi Arabia was offering additional crude shipments via Oman. The move comes after drone attacks damaged the East-West oil pipeline to the Red Sea, disrupting energy supplies.
The price of Brent crude fell to around $103 a barrel, down from its recent peak. This decline follows an estimated $107 billion in extra fuel spending by U.S. consumers due to the Iran war and fallout from Russia's invasion of Ukraine, according to Brown University researchers.
U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright acknowledged the short-term impact on energy resources, stating 'this has taken some energy resources out of the marketplace' during a Fox News interview. He added that this 'short-term sacrifice for Americans right now' is intended to end Iran's ability to drive up energy prices.
