Saudi Arabia Prepares for Potential US Strike on Iran with Oil Production Boost
Saudi Arabia is increasing its oil production and exports in case of a US strike on Iran that could disrupt Middle East supplies, according to two sources familiar with the plan.
The Saudi government has a contingency plan to boost output by around 0.5 million barrels per day, similar to last year's plan which was put into action after the US attacked Iranian nuclear sites in June.
This year's plan will be implemented if no disruption occurs, and Saudi Arabia will then dial back production to meet its OPEC+ quotas, one of the sources said.
The move comes as US President Donald Trump considers a strike on Iran to pressure Tehran into agreeing a deal to curb its nuclear programme. The US has assembled a large military force in the Middle East in recent weeks.
