Saudi Arabia's Yemen Policy Exposed by Houthi Advances

The recent Houthi offensive along Yemen's Red Sea coast has put Saudi Arabia on notice. The Houthi forces captured the strategic port of Mocha and are advancing toward the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Arabian Sea.

The significance of this maritime chokepoint cannot be overstated: it allows for about 4.2 million barrels per day of crude oil and petroleum products to pass through, making it a crucial link in international energy markets.

Saudi Arabia had previously used military pressure to reverse the Southern Transitional Council's (STC) expansion into Hadramaut and Al Mahra, but this latest Houthi offensive may force Riyadh to reconsider its Yemen policy.
