Saudi Coalition Rejects Houthi Claims of Attack on Riyadh
The Saudi-led coalition has dismissed claims by Houthi rebels of an attack on Riyadh as 'misleading'. The Houthis, backed by Iran, have been fighting against Yemen's internationally recognized government since July. They claimed to have attacked a site south of the Saudi capital belonging to oil giant Aramco.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), flames and smoke were rising from the facility, but Saudi authorities have not commented on the incident. The Houthis also claimed last month to have attacked an oil facility in the Saudi port city of Yanbu, a major oil terminal on the Red Sea.
The fighting between the Houthis and government forces has intensified since July, with the Houthi launching a lightning offensive that seized coastal regions along the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait. They have also struck targets inside Saudi Arabia, the world's top oil exporter.
