Saudi Crude Cargoes Eased Oil Price Pressures, Stocks Reflect
U.S. oil and gas stocks declined as crude prices fell across the board. The S&P 500 energy index, which tracks major energy companies, dropped 1.9% in a single session.
The decline in crude prices was largely attributed to reports of additional Saudi crude cargo availability through Oman, easing supply concerns that had driven up oil prices recently.
Major players like ExxonMobil (NYSE:XOM) and Chevron (NYSE:CVX) fell 2.1% and 1.8%, respectively, while smaller companies such as ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP), EOG Resources (NYSE:EOG), Occidental Petroleum (NYSE:OXY), and Diamondback Energy (NASDAQ:FANG) dropped between 4.1% and 8%.
Oilfield services companies also suffered losses, with SLB (NYSE:SLB) down 1.5% and Halliburton (NYSE:HAL) falling 1.2%.
