Saudi Crude Tanker Evades Detection in Red Sea

A tanker carrying Saudi crude oil, identified as the Merbabu and owned by a Greek company, transited through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait without broadcasting its location.

This tactic, known as 'dark mode', has been employed by shippers to avoid detection in the Strait of Hormuz for months.

The Merbabu reappeared in the Arabian Sea on Thursday with its Automatic Identification System (AIS) signal turned back on, after three days of silence.
