Saudi East-West Pipeline Shut Down After 'Treacherous' Attack
Regional powers have condemned the 'treacherous' attack that shut down Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline. The US President, Donald Trump, stated on Saturday in Dublin that Iran was probably responsible for the attack.
The Gulf Co-operation Council condemned the attack 'in the strongest terms', calling for necessary measures to prevent Iraqi territory from being used to launch further attacks. Other Gulf and Arab states also strongly condemned the strike on Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure, describing it as a breach of international law and a threat to regional security.
The full pumping capacity through the East-West pipeline amounts to about seven million barrels per day, making it critical in linking oil production sites with Yanbu on the west coast. The kingdom has not retaliated against Iraq for now, after Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi requested restraint and dismissed a military commander over the incident.
