Saudi-Led Coalition Intercepts Six Ballistic Missiles Fired by Houthi Group

The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen claims to have shot down six ballistic missiles launched by the Iran-allied Houthi group towards cities in Saudi Arabia.

According to Major General Turki al-Malki, spokesman for the Saudi-backed Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, the missiles were destroyed on Thursday in the direction of the Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu.

The coalition statement comes as Greek military personnel operating an air defence system in Saudi Arabia intercepted a ballistic missile and a drone on Thursday in the wider Yanbu region, home to major oil refining facilities.

Yanbu port is crucial for Saudi crude shipments when the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted. The Houthis have largely targeted southern areas of Saudi Arabia, stepping up attacks after declaring a naval blockade in July.
