Saudi Oil Crisis Intensifies as Yanbu Loadings Halted
Saudi Arabia's oil crisis deepened after Saudi Aramco suspended loadings from the Red Sea port of Yanbu, following a halt in its East-West pipeline. This move sent Brent crude prices back to $108 per barrel.
The suspension is part of a double whammy facing Asia's oil industry: supply shortages and better-than-expected demand are driving up crude differentials across the region.
Chinese refiners are scrambling for available October supply, with futures prices on China's Shanghai Futures Exchange reaching $138 per barrel, a record high. However, some recovery in exports from Saudi terminals in the Gulf is possible, albeit massively constrained by unprecedented freight rates.
