A key oil pipeline system in Saudi Arabia was struck by projectiles on Thursday, according to two US officials familiar with the matter.

The attacks occurred at pump stations next to the pipeline and caused extensive fire damage. A satellite image taken Friday appears to show a pumping station on fire, sending up thick black smoke.

The Saudi Ministry of Energy said in a statement that the pipeline was shut down as a precautionary measure after being attacked by drones originating from Iraq.
