Saudi Oil Pipeline Shut Down Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions
Saudi Arabia has shut down its East-West pipeline after a drone attack that originated in Iraq, according to both Baghdad and Riyadh. The pipeline, which runs across the Arabian Peninsula, has been the main route for global supplies of Middle East oil since the Strait of Hormuz was largely shut by war.
The attack resulted in some injuries and damage, but no immediate claim of responsibility was made. Satellite images showed black smoke rising from an area south of Medina, where the pipeline was damaged.
US President Donald Trump said Iran was probably to blame for the attack, which has added pressure on the Baghdad government to address its close ties with both the US and Iran.
