Saudi Oil Pipeline Shutdown Sparks Global Market Concerns
The global oil market is facing another challenge as Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline has been shut down due to damage caused by drones launched from Iraq. This development comes on top of the ongoing impasse over reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which has already squeezed global oil supply for months.
The pipeline, a key relief valve for Saudi Arabia, was closed in mid-September after it was damaged. The conduit allows the kingdom to bypass the blockage at Hormuz and keep its oil shipments flowing from the Red Sea instead.
The closure of the East-West pipeline has added to the threats to Saudi Arabia's energy assets and Red Sea exports as Yemen's Houthi rebels step up their attacks.
