Saudi Oil Tankers Struck by Projectiles in Strait of Hormuz

Two Saudi oil supertankers were struck by unknown projectiles while sailing out of the Strait of Hormuz on Monday evening. The incidents, which occurred within minutes of each other, marked a further deterioration in the security environment in the Omani corridor.

The Saudi Arabian-flagged VLCC Sidr was hit at approximately 19:52 UTC, about 16.6 nautical miles north-east of Khasab, Oman. Shortly after, the Liberian-flagged VLCC Senegal Prosperity was reportedly struck by three unknown projectiles around 17 nautical miles east of Khasab.

All crew members aboard both vessels were reported safe. The tankers had each loaded about two million barrels of Saudi crude at the Juaymah terminal last week, according to data. Saudi Aramco resumed oil loadings and sales from inside the strait in August.
